As part of a reception at Moataz Al Alfi Garden at AUC New Cairo campus, the RFL team was invited by AUC President Ahmad Dallal on November 30, 2022 to celebrate the successful participation of AUC in COP27 and the outstanding contribution of AUC students, faculty and staff.
Three RFL projects (ClayMorphs, ClayBricks, and Cora 3D) were showcased at the AUC pavilion in the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt (November 6-18, 2022). The RFL exhibit was well received and was visited by esteemed guests and delegates including ministers in the Egyptian government, ambassadors of the US and the Netherlands, members of US Congress, USAID and the World Bank. The showcased projects reflects the work of RFL members Islam Salem, Aly Ibrahim, Aseel ElAshry, Nada Yaakoub, and Salma Ghanim.
Dr. Sherif Abdelmohsen, RFL Director, and Prof. Hanadi Salem, Director of the Additive Manufacturing Centennial Lab (AMCL) at the Mechanical Engineering Department at AUC, conducted a stage presentation titled "Digital Manufacturing for Sustainable and Cleaner Construction" at the AUC pavilion in the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt (November 6-18, 2022). The presentation highlighted the recent collaborations between RFL and AMCL in the area of additive manufacturing for sustainable and cleaner construction.
Dr. Sherif Abdelmohsen, RFL Director, and Dr. Khaled Tarabieh, AUC University Architect and Director of the Building Sciences Lab at AUC, conducted a stage presentation titled "Coupling Parametric Design and Robotic Assembly Simulation to Generate Thermally Responsive Brick Walls" at the AUC pavilion in the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt (November 6-18, 2022). The presentation highlighted the work conducted jointly with the Building Sciences Lab, and featuring the work of Rana El-Dabaa, Asmaa Gamal, Yomna El Ghazi, and Islam Salem.
RFL hosted the “Robotic Non-Planar 3D Metal Printing (Metal vs. Clay)” international interdisciplinary workshop in collaboration with the Additive Manufacturing Centennial Lab (AMCL) at the Mechanical Engineering Department at AUC, which was organized virtually by the DigitalFUTURES Workshops 2022 (June/July 2022).
